Bionic Commando Swings Back Into Action
October 16, 2007 - After almost two decades in the doldrums, Capcom has revealed that NES shooter Bionic Commando is set to make its return on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. What's more it's already in development at Swedish developer GRIN, with a American producer and Japanese creative advisor helming the project.
This updated version takes its inspiration from the 1988 side-scrolling original and, once again, features a lead character who's a combination of man and machine. Furthermore, the bionic 'hook' from the original - which lets you swing from building to building - is making its return, complete with a fancy next-gen makeover that enables you to traverse the skyscrapers, canyons and sheer rock faces.

Ah yes, it's probably best to explain the reason behind all this swinging about. You see, you play as a character called Nathan Spencer - voiced by Faith No More singer and The Darkness favourite Mike Patton - who must take down a gang of terrorists that have laid waste to the futuristic Ascension City. Luckily, armed with all your bionic gadgetry, this should all prove a doddle.
In fact, Spencer is able to target and take out enemies while hanging upside down, climbing a building or even in mid-swing. At close quarters, the bionic arm packs a mean punch, while from a distance, objects such as boulders and cars can be grabbed and launched at enemies.
There's no release date for Bionic Commando just yet, but in the meantime you can gaze at the first ever screens in our gallery...
I will be sure to play it, I loved the one on NES, and the one on Gameboy.
