Sony PS3 fanboys will be strutting around again this month after US sales figures just in showed that the PS3 outsold the Xbox 360 in February.
This is the second month in a row that the PS3 has finally managed to get ahead of its key rival but Microsoft has put the sales lapse down to lingering product shortages. NPD Group said that the PS3 racked up unit sales of 280,841 for February compared to 360 sales of 255,000 – a 10% lead. Xbox 360 games held 5 of the Top 10 slots in software sales though, compared to one for the PS3.
Of course, the Wii continued to kick both of their butts with February sales of 432,000.
Even if Microsoft sorts out the availability issues, it might find it hard to regain the lead in the long term now that the high-def movie format war is over and Blu-ray is the winner.
After all, there are lot of gamers/movie buffs out there that held off on the PS3 partly because the HD war was unresolved. I know I did, at least until two weeks ago, when I finally added the PS3 to complete my console line-up. And yes, it’s great – and a whole lot quieter than my Xbox 360 Elite, which seems to think it’s a jet-fighter at take-off.
Like it as I do though, I will not be getting a PS3 tattoo. -Martin Lynch

True, that.
Anyways, the victory of Blu-Ray (if you call it that, I prefer aggressive negotiations) as expected, could boosts the customers' confidence in the PS3.
It was once deemed as the cheapest Blu-Ray player, and you get a game console as a bonus. (though, its the other way around for me)
Just wait until the hottest games for it are released, an it'll grab the software sales spots (MGS4 would be up there, I know I'll contribute)

That's actually really cool. I have a PS2, but I wasn't sure about a PS3. Now I may rethink it now that I see it's making some success.

I'm still pretty much unsure whether I made the right choice when I got my Wii but seeing that it's still outsells the other 2 consoles..it makes me feel relief...though maybe I might get a PS3 in the future but that would mean slogging my guts out during work.

I don't get why people are swayed by these kind of "results"... I mean how does what these people buy mean anything? Would you really feel better about buying the system you did just cause a couple hundred-thousand others did too? So what?

Well to me I guess having the Wii doesn't seem enough since the 360 and PS3 have other games catered to it. The Wii's strong point isn't it's graphic but it's unique/fun gameplay. Honestly speaking I had a hard time deciding whether to get a PS3 or Wii since I wanted to get 1 console for now and maybe 1-2yrs later pick up another console.
DS is correct though what matters most I guess would be how I honestly feel about the console and not other's opinions/results of poll....woe is me with my weakness for looking at polls >.<

At the moment my beliefs on that console still says it currently sucks
cos of its lack of games
a console is rated by its quality of games is how i see it

darksage you idiot, you kind of awnsered your own question,
Other people buy it, increases online multiplayer, your satisfied by purchasing you will never go without an online game + when trends are set there obvious meaning is to be followed, so if i was to go out and buy a ps3 all the people around me would be like hey hes got one lets get one to, its also psychology people tend to copy there suroundings. In this case the ps3 is the best console out there if you look at its features, but say if people started buying more 360s, then you wouldnt want to waste money on a console. Look at the 360 players now the HD-DVD is dead that now means ps3 owners you got a solid console that is guaranteed a future proof for atleast another 2 years.

More people buying a console means more confidence in it, which is good news for developers. They want to make games for consoles that are selling, not some platform that are gonna sink like a rock in the ocean (figuratively).
In other words, more games for that particular console, since not all developers can afford to make multiplatform games. The programming for the two console are far too different to make it an easy task.
Game developing will only get more expensive, and developers can't afford to choose the wrong console to make a game for. Sometimes, they bet on one game to make a profit, and die when the games spectacularly fail.

Only fanboys care about these numbers.
As for me 360 is an unreliable piece of shit. But it has Halo 3 and COD4; and I like having the two best games I've ever played on one console.
I've considered buying a PS3 for its reliability... but the online is lacking. The game selection is whack. And Blu-Ray is overrated.
DVD: The look and sound of good enough. At a much much much cheaper price.
I'll be upgrading to HD when it becomes a worthy purchase.

Swift the online is actually very good. In game online that is :P
And its very very smooth, You will encounter VERY little lag, Also all sony servers are stable. Also bluray is amazing, I dont think you actually compared a bluray vs a dvd, i actaully can see the difference me being some one who loves design/colours photography i appreciate colours very much, thats why i went and bought http://www.rgbdirect.co.uk/ProductDetails.asp?SKUNumber=105654
and for sound http://www.rgbdirect.co.uk/ProductDetails.asp?SKUNumber=105140
And trust me I compared 300 HD, vs DVD and MY GOD was there such a big difference, The sound sound so much crisper and it filled the room and it felt like i was right in the middle of the battle scenes, As for the tv the picture looked so real! the colours so sick but on dvd you could see the colours was under saturated and looked very null, the sounds at time came out tinny and sounded like that there was something flickering in the speakers at high volumes, but all these fixed when i used hd.
So yeh..

In game online is alright. Hardly "smooth." For any game other than Resistance. Most of the games have broken voice chat and the lack of in game xmb is a major drawback. I'm someone who usually plays with the same people I know in real life, and I like knowing when they're on and being able to send them cross game invites and messages. Its really hardly a comparison. Home is pretty nice, but it seems more like a gimmick now that I found out they're still not adding in-game xmb.
Blu ray and DVD are obviously very different. But the difference is hardly worth $20 difference per movie. It just isn't a big enough jump in quality for me to warrant a purchase. Maybe when BluRay reaches its final profile; even then I'll probably wait a little longer for prices to drop.

im getting a ps3 when i have enough cash anyways, because i tend to collect all the systems that come out. I already have all three from the last generation (PS2, Xbox, and GameCube). I also have the two handhelds, DS and PSP. so i don't really go into the detail of the problems each system has or which one is better.
