I wanna listen to some new bands and I listen to a lot of different kinds of music (plus I want to expand my horizons anyway) so list (at most) 5 bands or 5 albums of your favorites.
Genres can be whatever: rock, hip hop, classical, etc.

You're talking to the right person! I'm a music fanatic. I listen to so many kinds. I'm mostly an electronic-dance-music (EDM) fan though. So I like a lot of techno music, house music, breakbeat music, dnb, and stuff like that.
Off the top of my head, if you like EDM, some that might find good is:
1. Boards of Canada (EDM - hard to place just what kind)
2. Booka Shade (electro-house music. It has this empty kind of feeling but the grooves and vibes are full. Very atmospheric, but often dance-able!)
3. Hallucinogen (high energy techno-trance stuff)
The Prodigy (techno/industrial/"big-beat" band with a lot of harsh, dirty, heavy-hitting tracks)
4. Ladytron (a synthpop/electropop group with a vintage electronic sound to them)
5. Akuften (microhouse artist who makes songs using small samples and clips and gluing them together)
6. Photek (cool sounding dnb stuff!)
7. Mark Farina (DJ and mixer of good, very VERY nice sounding Deep House (type of house music)). Should of put him and "OM Records" in general at the top of this list.
8. Fluke (electronica with big-beat influence. Kind of reminds me of The Prodigy, but not as heavy)
9. Dimitri From Paris (a dj that mixes a lot of house and easy-listening dance music. Dance-able stuff!
10. Me (yes me lol I like to make dnb, house and techno)
If you're into HARD ROCK, METAL and METALCORE:
1. Watch Them Die (Violent and mean metal/thrash with high screams and low growls)
2. Dry Kill Logic (angsty and loud metalcore)
3. DevilDriver (metalish band with the ex-vocalist of what I believe was "Coal Chamber.")
4. Shadows Fall (a cool metalcore band. Lol)
5. Radiation 4 (very different, very weird sounding metal stuff. It's metal but they mix some strange stuff into it)
6. Dimmu Borgir (harder, darker and more "evil" band with songs on "epic" scales. They often combine their music with symphony backgrounds)
7. Otep (a more disturbing type of metal band with a female vocalist. She talks in songs a lot, sings a bit, and then screams like a man in others. Her topics are usually kind of strange or disturbing)
8. Kittie (more girls on guitars lol. Their earlier stuff was super heavy but their sound got a lot lighter on more recent albums)
If you want some high energy PUNK music:
1. Leftover Crack (anarchist, anti-racist, non-religious, anti-statist punk band with styles ranging from hard punk to ska)
2. At The Drive-In (the band that existed before "The Mars Volta." It's less progressive rock, and more post-hardcore punk. I liked them better as ATDI, so this is what you should look for)
3. Say Anything (nothing really interesting to say; I just like this punk band lol)
4. Atreyu (sings a lot of emotional and society type of music ontop of high energy guitars)
5. Unearth (could go under punk or metal, as they're a bit of both. Honestly, they're closer to metal. I like the guitar-work)
If you want some RAP, then you can check out:
1. Do or Die (Chicago-based gangsta-rap. I usually like them due to the beats. The beats!)
2. Immortal Technique (Very hardcore, yet very different rapper. Most of his raps deal with society and politics)
3. E-40 (Smooth rapping. I just like his flows lol)
4. UGK ("Underground Kings." One of the members is dead now I believe. Still, they had some pretty good music that you could turn up to feel the "bump" :] ... )
5. Twista (He's literally the fastest rapper in the world; I do believe he still holds that record. He speaks SO FAST lol. And the music is cool too.)
6. Ultramagnetic MC's (older rap with that older rap sound. Cool to listen to if you want to feel all "hip-hoppy" lol)
7. Broken Glass (another older rap group doing the "electro" genre. A type of hip-hop with a specific distinct old-school electro sound. Listen!)
If you're into old-school FUNK music, look into these.
1. Dazz Band (very groovy band with very catchy music)
2. Cameo (a different kind of funk. They're electro/disco funk. Kind of r&b'ish. Worth a listen if you want something different)
3. Kool and the Gang (their style ranges from disco to funk to jazz. So very nice.)
4. Parliament / Funkadelic (Pretty much the same band with the same members. It's good-feeling funk music you can sort of party to).
5. Sly & the Family Stone (very influential funk/soul group that kind of changed the sound of soul and funk)
There's soooooooo much more I want to list but this might be too much as it is.
I'm sorry!! >.>

They're alright, but I've been told their new album isn't up to par.

The best Metallica album, which is a perfect show of true musicians, was St. Anger. Just the DVD for that album was pure fcking raw. No studio shit etc etc etc just real metal. Metalcore can suck it (lol) St. Anger killed *bows*

I suppose Lostprophets is okay. I liked their older stuff.

>_> I didn't <_< All the hype rock now, amd 24 Hours Rent-A-Band groups have all but killed the good sides to the America music industry. Respectable groups suchs as Tool Dream Theater, Stone Temple Pilots, Alice in Chains Chris Cornell, have either, broken up, stayed away from publicity and cheap markerting techniques (and have become 'underground', or did the opposite and gave into fads or sold themselves out due to greed. Tis a shame.

I like this thread, I will check out some of these bands....
ereos, lets redefine hip hop....
hmmm
RnB/Hip Hop
Deepside
Stevie Hoang
PussyCat Dolls
Big Bang (Korean singing english :P)
Flo Rider
Evren
Jin
Neyo
Trey Songz
T-Pain
Timbaland
none of this is hip hop...rap and hip hop are different now...t-pain, flo rida neyo, they are terrible...the beats are not creative and the lyrics are even worse. Radio RAP should be a new genre. Rap is even different...Rap has 50 cent, snoop, dre, wutang etc. which are fine, but not hip-hop
hip-hop:
Atmosphere
Rhyme Sayers
Aesop Rock
Living legends
FELT
Old mos def
Talib Kwali
immortal technique
jedi mind trick
Reggae:
SEEED-yes with three E's
Groundation
Midnite
Albarosie
Alpha Blondie
and you can never go wrong with classic rock...

Methinks "Radio" Rap is what they call R&B now. Obviously no relation to the original R&B.

Agreed. I was thinking "Wait...if R&B stands for 'Rhythm and Blues', how is this even close to that?"
I do like metalcore, hardcore, etc. but I do admit, the videos are lacking.

R&B isn't all that close to hip-hop or rap.
It's the stuff you hear on the radio singing about relationships and life and stuff, that's usually heavily black oriented, but not rap.
KC and JoJo, R-Kelly, Ginuwine, Jodeci, Destiny's Child - these are examples of R&B.
None of those are hip-hop or rap, though they often have some elements of those within them. The "rhythm" usually comes from the usual rhythm (usually simple percussion and a distinguishable bass). The "blues" comes from the subject matter these artists usually sing about: real life issues, breaking up, being in love, needing a job, family, etc.
