Sithreis

:P But they do make some of the most hardcore notebooks around. Quad Core with dual GFX cards (lol) I can't wait till they pull out a new model with RAID. But listen to Omar, building a tower is always the fastest. Only time not to build one, is if you'd prefer having a warranty ;)

Sharingan
Nov 11th, 2008, 04:08 PM
... all parts have waranty..... the only down side is that you got to know if its that certain part thats not working, with a prebuild at a company you just send it off to be examined to see whats not working

Sithreis
Nov 11th, 2008, 04:13 PM
Different kinds of warranty. You should know this :P Get a comp from circuit city, and they'll fix anything up for as long as you are within a warranty (I know for I have used said warranty, and as long as you don't say something stupid like "I didn't know I couldn't wash the screen" There shouldn't be a problem) Though you aren't going to get refund without meeting some harsh conditions, but say building a computer yourself, only a certain part failing you'd be able to get replaced, and even then you can't send your computer in to let certified people do it, so if you phuck up everything you're screwed. And even then, thats only hardware warranties, not software. There are some downsides to building a computer, but if you know what you're doing, and have emergency money, it shouldn't be a problem.

It'll require some knowledge about some computer science to build a computer. Only a tiny bit of course, not a PhD or something on it lol. Also a few hours of your patience, and sore hands. (Phucking screws)

I know, which is why I recommended Toshiba, but as you don't want a notebook, I'd say get a Dell, Gateway(blehck), or Sony< not really high powered, but pretty nice for someone that wants an efficient computer, as for being able to upgrade em in the future I wouldn't know that. But Dell is probably the smartest store bought choice. DO NOT GET HP, they will fuck you over on every part it comes with. *starts muttering to self*

Those are two that are under 1k. Hell, the Circuit City where I live has some similar models that are 100 times better.

Let me stop you right there. Hundreds of people have made decisions on that 'just for' idealism. I could make a Venn diagram on the similarities on buying a computer 'just for' with hundreds of other choices. However, I will make these two "I slept with her just for her friend to want me | She gave me herpes (sorry) Thats one no no in life (one) "I rented this apartment just for the internet | I have been robbed twice, and properties damage has cost me hundreds" (sorry) I bet one of those robberies.....fucked with his internet (lol) These are just a few example. Now that we narrowed down #1 Why you want a computer and #2 How to buy it, we can now look maybe not as thoroughly at other aspects, but 'settling' is NOT recommended.

I might sell my Toshiba for about 450-500 Dunno. It has sentimental value so I doubt I'd ever sell it though.

Trusting by names or Internet friendships is a mistake.

Hah your statement is flawed :)

those that are lucky enough to have such friends are one out of a million,

and theres like 5 of them in this forum, so you must be very lucky.

Around £810 -£1080. Seems reasonable. You can go less than that. £600 - £800 for a decent mid-ranged.

Gaming computer?
or u r more of a video freak.. u want a decent one or a high end one

i personally recommend

IP45 Biostar <- with this OC is as easy as ABC
E8400 (EO) <- get the one with this batch code
1GBX2 Corsair Dominator
500GB HDD they are cheap nowadays
PALIT HD4870<- Dual slot Dual fan heatpipe cooler.. good GC but u wont be able to crossfire but its a good gc
PSU : Mushkin 580w <- trust me its more than enough
and the new thermaltake case i cant remember the name quite cheap
for the cooler u have two choice both are cheap and good quality stuff

1.Sunbeam Core Contact Freezer <- not too catchy but performs very well!
2.Deepcool Killer Whale <- looks good n same performance as sunbeam CCF
