Equal. Vastly different works, and different reasons or times to enjoy them.

It depends on what it is. Some anime's are great, but some manga are great also. A lot of times the anime doesn't represent the manga well.
I guess I'll go with Anime though, because I like watching things move...

I watch and read both however if given the choice between the two when they was up to date i would pick episodes as i enjoy watching it more then the manga as episodes can express with ambient music and also atmoshphere alot better, like for example when in the manga i will try hard to imagine what happens but theres nothing like a moment when sasuke first meets naruto and were like OH SHIT ITS GONA GO KNOCK OUT HERE!lol

this true like how the air gear anime isn;t as good as the manga as well as tenjou tenge anime wasn't as good as the manga too but the full metal panic manga isn't as good as the anime nori brings up a good point

If its a generalization your after i would say the comics are better. The storyline is more in depth and the artwork is usually better. The animated cartoons usually degrade the way things look just so they can animate them, and the animation is usually very unsmooth (i can't think of a better word) when it comes to japanese animation.
So if i was ever given the choice whether to watch the animated cartoon or the comic of a series i would probably pick the comic. There are however rare cases where i would prefer the animation.

You go out of your way to call them comics and cartoons, but if we wanted a poll for marvel and warner bros. we'd make it

uh who are you? DS?
i kinda liked what sith said....they are meant to be enjoyed equally...in either case there is help on the drawings or animation from multiple people...
but I respect manga more.....those are complete visions from one person...they create the story and shape it...Animes take that story and just use a different medium...
granted..there are expceptions to that rule...like cowboy bebop....samurai champloo....miyazaki

I would have typed "discuss" with a lowercase D.
I don't think you can accurately answer this question. "Anime vs Manga" would only be a proper debate if there were a manga that was completely faithful to its manga and then you could say to yourself, "OK what did I like more, reading Story X or watching Story X?" Because currently it's more like the manga is Story X and the anime is Story X' (X-prime). But what would you even be considering? Printed artwork vs animation/graphics, black and white vs color, etc?
I would have to say that given the current relationship between manga and its anime counterpart, I prefer manga. I'm the type of guy that likes the original story. And in general, I like books more than their movie counterparts. So I basically agree with byakugon.

I prefer anime, since I like watching things move. I also like the whole process behind creating animation, so....yeah.
Manga is always fun to read, though.

i would say anime because it all action packed
moving images
im not a fan of still images
though i do enjoy manga
there 1 thing i like most about the manga is that it always stick to the original plot whilst the anime may derive from it or even skip it by chance from the original plot
but then as for manga, not many manga can be found in anime format
and the likewise for the anime
not many anime can be found in manga format
there also a chance when the anime stops earlier to when the manga finishes off

In the end I wouldnt give up either. One I can relax to with some Pocky, the other I can listen to a new album with (and multitask a lot of other shit) I believe as they are both such a big part of Japanese society, it'd be stupid to like the culture and leave out a major part of it. However I hate that I pretty much have to read Manga in English. I like listening to the Anime so I can use the TL's to learn more :P

It depends. Manga usually tends to have better eye candy in my eye, and go more into the details behind the storyline; Just like a Novel and it's Movie adaption. (See also: TO LOVE FUCKING RU: Making shit up since 2007 (t.t))
On the other hand, Anime "brings the manga to life", your screen becomes animated and your speakers talk, and that's awesome.

Anime are the best because anime are the best and the best are anime and anime i think are the best because obviously the best are anime and anime are different from manga because anime are the best and best of the best are anime and best of all are anime and anime are best and best are anime of the best and manga are not the best because the best are anime and anime are the best for sure but i am not sure if manga are the best because the best are the anime.
I hope i gave a resonable explanation why i like anime.

I fully agree, although I lean over to manga maybe a bit more for two reasons.
1) Story is many times more complete. Anime adaptations tend to leave out a lot of the story sometimes. I hear that Mahou Sensei Negima's anime series had to be redone because it was completely different to the manga when it was first made.
2) The pace of manga is many times better as well. When reading the manga the story flows smoothly in contrast with the anime where you sometimes get stuck watching the scenery go by for 2 minutes before the story actually continues.
EDIT: Oh and in manga you do not get stuck with a ton of filler episodes.

what is weird and i do not like is when there is an anime that is created from scratch..it airs and then they make a manga based off of it...

Well that's generally true, I usually dislike manga that were created just for the sole sake of $$$ when it is based of an original anime series like code geass. The artwork is seriously hideous, Bandai/Sunrise should have asked CLAMP to do the manga for CG.

I like Manga a little better than anime due to the fact that from what I've seen usually the manga vs. anime adaptaions usually the manga does a better job in story and character development. Not to say that there aren't really great anime out there, but still preffer manga still.

When reading manga my mind is gathering all the details and creating the world which gives your imagination a +10 points every time you read.
Now watching anime the scenery is already made for you and all your mind is doing is captering it.
Certainly you will get creative with both but I think manga gives you a more intense emotion then anime but then again depending on the anime as well.
Just my point of view in that aspect.

Anime FTW... Manga FTW for killing time in the train...
Zenko I think that u where confusing manga with a certain thing called a BOOK... In mangas the scenery is already present 2... coz you know... mangas have images in them... (-.-)
So basically: witch one do you want to sacrifice motion or details ? Coz mangas have details and anime have the motion... We are now back to the classic topic: Book VS Movie... (lol)

A lot of fight scenes and such though are left to your mind to fill in. Think of it this way, the person seeing the sword swing in full motion, and desrtoying landscape and such, as opposed to one just imagining a moving sword, all up to the reader. (lol)

No my friend he is referring to the topic in this discussion not specifically Western comics and cartoons.
As far as Japanese animation goes, for the majority its unimpressive to me. There are some good works and they shine in a sea filled with recycled ota trash.
The only reason I'm at otakuworks is for my love in manga. The panel layouts can get very interesting, the stories usually have more depth, and artwork nearly always better. Now there is a lot of trashy manga, but of the good manga I have read, it has been far more enjoyable experience than most of the anime I watched.

I voted anime because the media/genre is better than having to read it. Too often, though, those who convert mangas into animes mess with the story too much for my taste.

I'd like to see that too. But from the way I'm looking at it there aren't any good action sequences in anime unless they are 3-D. It is very rare to find 2-D animation sequences in anime which look smooth, cool and action packed.
