Alright. I'm bored. Sorry. But a good topic.. is a good topic...
I'm sorry I believe in God, but the thing is I like the idea that science created the Earth and all that. I dunno but it's just me.
Anyways, what's your... *scratches chin* I should say if you are against or for the idea of stem-cell research. (although for some reason I like to call it clones. [Doint a report as we speak on stem-cell research])
Hm?
As for me. Yes. The stem-cell research should be created. I would explain but I want to hear other people's opinions. You sure are liking the idea of debates huh Hellspire? *snickers*

yes and no
No: religion, 2 many ppl in world, not enough food and supplies, mistake ppl for their twin
Yes: tis cool, you will be able to save ppls lives and such so ya

Slade, please correct this post. You should be asking about Stem-Cell Research, rather than clones. No one is actually debating clones currently, only the issue of using Stem-cells as medicine. Once you have done this I will reply in force.

is that the embyo thing?

I may have misunderstood his post. I believe though that a more intellegent debate will ensue if we discuss a live issue rather than a hypothetical one. After all, we are not near clone research yet, simply the use of embryo's nicknamed 'stem-cells' for research, which could revolutionalize medicine as we know it!

I would be ok with it so long as we are not taking life away from anybody(clone ro otherwise). So if its cloning organs and such, that would be fine, but making life to take it away? I disagree with that

Hmmm, the only way we could get proper organs, is if we grew them from almost identical clone's who would then have to be rapidly grown and then dissected like a lab animal. If you want to go on with this conversation about clones and not stem cells, we can save that for another debate...
Clones eh? Anyone seen the Animatrix? Remember what the robots did? What did they do when their rights were called into question? They broke apart from their masters (the real humans), etc etc. so we could potentially have that issue. But lol, with all these prolife, and religious people, I doubt clone research would get anywhere. "Abominations," they would be called. I'd like to see this get out of legislation when and if it comes--although, I have no doubt that it will eventually come.

I dont know, but in the halo books they had this thing where they cloned organs alone. I know it is impossible with current technology, or maybe impossible completely, but that would be revolutionary.

Hmm i'm for cloning organs definetely if it could save people's lives. And for cloning people, well teh only way i'd clone people is if you could take their organs. Or is taht already the subject for debate? I don't know what's the whole thing with the stem cell organ stuff or what their doing. I guess i'm pro clones i guess. Cept I feel bad for the clone, the only reason their being made is to give up organs to a real person. And they have to die to, so i'd feel bad for them but I still think we should have clones for organs and somehow like make the clones not live or somehting. I dont' really know what I htink on this subject. I think either way doesn't bother me.

As I said before, the aniMatrix when it went into the history of Earth prior to the war the subject of rights for their creations (robots) only happened after a robot killed his master because they were talking about destroying him. The robot had argued that it did so in self-defense. Now IMAGINE if you applied this to clones. Also, let's throw in all these animal rights groups who show the horrors of blah blah. We would have a lot of problems if we grew clones (which in effect ARE humans) and then used them to further our ends.

Okay, I'll make this brief.
I support cloning creatures (eg; dinosaurs/mammoths) that were extinct and are being brought back for entertainment purposes (like a zoo).
I do not support stem cell research as from what I've heard, they pretty much grow cloned fetuses, kill them, then take their body parts for peoples that need 'em.
I also do not support abortion.
I do, however, support killing people who'm have allready had a chance at life and grew up to become dicks.

Uh, that's nice... seen Jursassic Park?

That is not what stem-cell research is. Stem cell research is where they use donated embryo's to create new vaccines and medicine that could potentially cure a score of diseases.
I also do not support abortion.
Then talk about that in the proper thread...

I would LOVE to clone dinosaurs, but like how Jurassic Park turned out. I'm having second thoughts.

You do realise that your clone would grow up to look like you, but, more then likely, wouldn't act anything like you, correct? Plus, since your clone wouldn't be born at the same time as you, it would be alot younger then you are.

Unless scientists perfected growth acceleration too. And yes, those implications I've heard of before, and they're good ones. I don't know what movie I saw, but it considered the question of "different attitude" clones.

I disagree. Bush has done more in the long-term best interest of this country, and all countries the US has recently been involved with. The media has endlessly attacked anything he's done as either "useless", "not addressing the problems of more importance", or "stupid." Now before I get too much ranting in here, I'll postpone it to a different topic.

Essential human rights, and even if they were clones, humanity would be violating its own long-held moral principles if it used clones for research, replacement organs, and what-not. We'd be just as hypocritical as Nazis.

Actually, there are some scientists that are working on engineering simple cell cultures to create organs by adhering to a biodegradable framework, making use of the fact that cells only grow one layer thick before stopping division. They've gotten as far as human ears the last time I heard.

No shit? My fault, I was not aware of that, but I feel stupid not for thinking it pheasible at the time I posted that response.

by the time they are making good non dieing clones im gonna be living for ever
so ha and ill brain wash them...if i can do that :bounce:

That sounds cool, can I join in brainwashing your clones?
Actually there's a prediction out by a prominent predictor that the ability to regenerate pretty much any part of the human body will come in 2012, not that far away.

this is running through the AP so i pulled in from AOL....
http://news.aol.com/story/_a/company-will-clone-dogs-for-top-bidders/20080522093409990002?icid=100214839x1202690249x120 0106843
IS this okay?
it brings up other issues as well. If you can clone dogs, then why not livestock animals? would you eat cloned beef? pork? cloned salmon? accept an organ transplant(aspcts of pig hearts are used for cardiac surgery)?
