I'm not exactly sure if this is appropriate here, but as the title says.. which is better?

Define better

Better overall for games, I suppose. As in, which one has better games?
The only thing that battles my opinion for the PS3 over the Xbox 360 is Final Fantasy XIII, which I'm eager to wait for. My friends also tell me that it has better graphics, but I read online that the 360 is coming out with some kinda graphic booster or something.

If it's about game quality and choice there should be no doubt in your mind. Xbox 360.
EDIT: You also added graphics at the end. The difference in graphics is not all that great, and shouldn't influence your decision. If that's all you're looking for, PS3 should be the obvious selection.

I want to get FF13, I think the box art looks cool.

But as for the 360 vs PS3, I would have to say they both have their strong points. What got me to choose a 360 over a PS3 was the price of each system, I would love to buy a PS3.

I would just get a PS3 since it has less technical issues compared to the 360.
Pardon me if I'm wrong but there's some technical issues with the 360 right now
1. The 3 rings of death - Despite this issue having been uncovered for quite some time, Microsoft have yet to fix their console. I know they have extended their warranty for the system but to me its a pain to keep going to the service centre to have it exchanged
2. I heard that the Xbox360 has an issue where the game discs are scratched easily by the console while its in the DVD drive.

The first is the only real problem, the second is caused only when the console is set vertically.
That wasn't the criteria of the comparison though.

Agreed... there are some consoles/handhelds I buy JUST to play a few games, like Zeldas and Marios. All I ever see for PS3 and 360 are games about guns, games about racecars, (or games about sports).

That's because it's an American belief not to be high when coming up with game ideas.

But they have Snake and Master Chief (:D) Almost worthy of being a mascot just like Mario is to Nintendo.

Xbox 360 hands down, before any of you say RROD, the PS3 has Ylod(i have one lol), and the RROD has pretty much been defeated with the jasper. But as far as game go, and graphic quality the xbox still wins, the xbox can top the PS3, but as far as games go the xbox has an amazing line up that keeps growing every season, and xbox live makes all the difference. So hands down Xbox 360

Ultimately either system has its fair share of excellent games. Strange that I would even be here since I own neither....Wii FTW (lol)

Its because you cant compare the wii to an xbox or ps3. They are just different in the league and this convo would end up us discussing the graphics and power. I had the wii first, sold it cause i was bored, got an xbox, then re bought the wii for wii fit. I have had fun with my wii but as far as gaming goes ill still chose the xbox, the market place is alot better than the wiis, i like my controller for the arcade games alot better, and its a little cheaper.

ps3 is better. the xbox is ugly, thats one point point.
xbox controller changed time to time. ps3 has had same style of pad since the 90s.
xbox full potential has been achieved.
there was a reason the ps3 was so expensive.
the only thing that made xbox better was; price, games, xbox live.
Now that the new slim ps3 is very competitive in price and the games are starting to catch up the 1-2 year lead xbox had. The only thing that xbox can be trump about is xbox live... but, you gotta pay which adds to the cost of your console.
The ps3 has very complicated technology, however thats just raw processing. graphics wise its still using a nvidia 7800? or one of them. so console gaming is miles away from what PC gaming can offer. I owned a xbox and ps2. But i never got the excitement from the original xbox. The ps2 was always going to be more wow. Now the ps3 is slowly starting to segment it self back in the game... just its taken a long time ¬_¬ to do so.
Overall both are great consoles, the xbox saturated a long time ago, RRoD was a problem in all xbox's but ps3 owners can not take the piss cause.... I got YLoD... and i was mega fucking pissed i paid £500.00 for my ps3 when it first came out and to see my 60gb die and along side it all the game saves . i was pissed off. The ps3 now however is still booming, every where around the world. The ps3 can only get stronger, its been out for 2years and the firmware is getting better everyday.

Once again that wasn't the criteria. If you're talking about potential then hell yeah go with the PS3. These are all valid arguments. Have to take each one into account.

which is better?
my argument was correct the console is better due to,
Established brand name you fully know what your getting,
Hdmi on board,
Bluray on console
Bluetooth connection
Other O/S option on older ps3's
Raw processing power allows bespoke software to run much better then bespoke 360.
Console is now more competitive in price
The online is free, never had a problem
The firmware is solid, never have had software issue with ps3.
No overheating problems
Doesn't need a massive external powersupply to plug into the console, just normal conector unlike xbox.
Controllers have motion sensors in them which, small feature but it works great in some games.
So really i dont see how you can say the ps3 is not a better console then the 360, surely based on the actual console, ps3 has always been better, xbox can't even compete, that is why they are selling their machines at such a low price to compete in sale volume.

Hdmi on board, Xbox 360 has this
Bluray on console Xbox is capable of having this, it doesnt exists yet
Bluetooth connection Xbox doesnt have this, but I dont see how this affects my gaming.
Other O/S option on older ps3's Same for xbox (linux anyone)
Raw processing power allows bespoke software to run much better then bespoke 360. I agree
Console is now more competitive in price So is microsoft.
The online is free, never had a problem I dont mind paying with all the little extras i get.
The firmware is solid, never have had software issue with ps3. I have, i got the YLOD
No overheating problems Same with my xbox, Jasper fixed this.
Doesn't need a massive external powersupply to plug into the console, just normal conector unlike xbox. Yet you have not seen the new power adapter, Its alot smaller, But this wont effect me liking a console or not.

but heres one thing the xbox does so much better than the ps3

Absolutely, and I'm not debating that. I was only pointing out that the deciding factor to the original poster was games. Therefore, the 360 is the better console in that light, as both you and I agree upon.
This is why I first asked the original poster to define "better."

Even though you're arguing that the Xbox 360 is superior in the graphics department, I'm looking at those two pictures and further solidifying my previous conclusion that the graphics between the two are incredibly similar. This is true even if one has much more processing power than the other, as the display of these games can only be so great.

They are similar, but so is 720p and 1080i.
Better is still better as far as quality goes.

Your first sentence is what I'm saying here. The graphics between the two consoles are almost identical. Throw all the technical shit you hear out the window, it'll look just fine, trust me.

What are those colour segment lines on the right of the PS3 picture? Possibly a bad picture quality?
But the AA differences between the two are extremely subtle.
