Ratings have come back, so please rate everything you see.
The only difference this time is that you are allowed to change your rating at any time. So rate... or be like berated or something.
Don't just rate everything 5 stars or you're dead meat! :yelling: :fu:

OWers RATE seriously so we can get a better idea of what series are "hot" for OW....don't just click five stars or whatever because you do not want to supper the wrath of a hellspire berating.

Problem: I don't rate individual scans, I only rate series (unless it's a oneshot).
Any chance of seeing series ratings returning?

In the very near future when you rate something (like a scan or an episode) you will be asked in your mycp if you want to rate/favorite/comment the series as well. which opens up other options for personalized tracking (rss/email/etc). (:])
In the meantime, you just go to the series page and rate it there and don't worry if you rate it early on and decide to change your rating later on because you can do that too.

This may belong in suggestions, but building off of that idea, maybe we could add a system where we can "favorite" series and/or make comments on that series that is displayed on the manga's page

The people who rate things in OW aren't critical enough to give anything less than five stars, i.e they don't consider the flaws of what they watch/read much or at all. Sure this might sound like not much fun to point out flaws, but for fucks sake not every series is perfect and deserves five/five. >:|
I recommend this: give options of like/dislike. Then show the percentage of voters who liked it.
Or you could have a critic who rates/reviews stuff, and put up his stuff.

That would probably only be you, me, saura, and probably DS that would write a criticizing review and not just something generous from the land of lollipops.

I know right? I was trying to think of a qualifier or a step function that could weigh down ratings that were consistently 5 stars and include a little note that said something like "overall rating is not an average of all individual ratings." Or perhaps have a staff review of a series, who's rating would constitute 40% of the total rating, with user ratings the other 60%. Or perhaps if some very high percentage (say 90%) of the ratings issued for a series/file were 5 stars, that lower ratings would have twice as much weight.
I've also noticed that new series added to Otakuworks with a mere handful of chapters already have been given 5 star ratings (seems odd to be able to accurately rate a series after 2-3 chapters of episodes anyway). They can now change their ratings, so maybe we can give people a little notice like "a series you previously rated has just finished, would you like to reconsider your rating?" or something.

I think the best way would be your first suggestion.

Then people would just "like" everything. There's always an inherited response bias: the people who like a series are the most likely to rate it.
Ironically there is an expansion coming very soon to Otakuworks (what Hellspire referred to above as "MyCP") that was just completed (with the exception of the finishing touches) that lets you favorite and track a series, lists what ratings you've given series, your status on it, what series you've read/downloaded that you haven't rated, etc, basically what you suggested in your earlier post (http://forums.otakuworks.com/showpost.php?p=279871&postcount=11). There will be a "reminder" notification of some sort telling users to rate those series. Hopefully that will get the ones who thought a series was poor quality and didn't rate to actually rate it 1-2 stars. I think the problem isn't that everyone thinks every series is 5 star quality, but that the people who don't think a series is 5 stars don't rate at all.

Now that i actually read this post, I think the comments on the manga page is an incredibly good idea. Maybe if you make this post it should also display your rating on the series next to your name.

I don't understand why you have them only for chapters. I'm like...100% less likely to post a comment on a chapter than a series.

Without revealing too much, simply put... unlike regular releases, series only have one comment per person allowance and you can change it the same way you change your rating. These are thusly entitled reviews but are waiting for another feature to be completed for production use (beta is done) for complete integration as a package.

A comment on a series constitutes a review. You can only review once but you can edit it as many times as you want.
This has already been implemented earlier today.

but no..... thats not what a comment is... thats what a..... review is. comments =/= reviews
comments are for discussion. you inhibit discussion by only allowing one comment per user.

Perhaps the comments you are referring to will be topics in the forums -- linked from the manga/anime page -- and the thread will hold the discussion.
Then the displayed "comments," or rather reviews, will be one per person. How about that?
