I thought I'd update you all on whats been going on the last week or so. First off, let me say that despite the troubles we've been facing, we have been experiencing a growth spurt in terms of visitors and it's good to see people are sticking with us. We look forward to doubling or tripling this growth in the next month or so.
However, we are not so blind as to think that these problems are not detrimental to the look-and-feel that is otakuworks. Some problems may (have) lasted for several hours and really annoyed people but rest assured that we are working on making Otakuworks stable again (due to the server issues) and improving its general performance. Be sure to look at the alerts (top of page) as they change to stay aware of performance issues and please be report problems on the forum somewhere or contact me for the swiftest resolution (often problems persist because no one lets me know about em and i don't live on this site (horn)despite what sithreis may think).
We hope to release a whole suite of new features (particularly member-based) by mid to end of this month. (:]) Viva Otakuworks (lol)

Well, you have to admit that the original message sounds downright corporate! But thanks for keeping us updated. That server outage scared me.

its nice that new members are using this site but if you don't mind my suggestion why not make this invite only until the site is maintained to slow down the new members coming in

its just a suggestion but the reason is that there are too many in the site thats why there is a problem not sure but that does happen to many i though it would be a temporary thing until you can fix it to manage that many amount of people i'm not saying to not get more people using this site but just a temporary method until you fix the site

We didn't crash from having too much traffic on the site. Glory hail the day so large a following becomes our undoing.

Sithreis is correct. The crash was not due to the raw amount of users persay it was more a decay issue in subsidiary processes (most of which were defunct) that forced a kernel panic.
The sad thing is that we really cant just up and 'fix' the issue by pulling a new server out of the hat and moving to it. Well that's not entirely true, we can, but the problem with the server occurred like 5 days before the server bill renewed so before we realized the issue would be persistent the server bill was auto-paid and we are here for another month. We will be exploring the issue of a smaller-secondary server to function as a slave driver but that wont be for a week or more.
However, to clarify one point that you brought up. Making it invite only would solve absolutely nothing. Guest activity outnumbers members 5 to 1 on average and the additional processes for a member aren't really that much different from a guest in terms of how much raw power it takes to fulfill requests. We appreciate you taking the time to suggest something though, we definitely are working on a "solution" so to speak.

Everyone should already know why this site has an increase in visitors. Otakuworks is one of the survivors of the "mangacide" on most of the sites. On the outages thing, I really hope for a permanent fix XD
