First off, I agree the 'site news' has not been updated in quite some time given the fact that there was nothing substantial to talk about--and the things that I could ramble about would be far too boring (I actually started typing the next paragraph here and deleted it as it was exactly what I mentioned).
The only things worth noting is that the error reporting and series request has received such high levels of traffic that it is becoming annoying for my staff to personally respond to them). Also the user recommendations engine (beta) that I announced back in December was put on hold while I moved and I have since come to the conclusion that it could benefit from a ticket oriented engine. So these three engines will be updated simultaneously over the course of the next week or so.
So yea... the above crap is why I stopped writing these news posts. But seeing 'happy new years' on the site annoys me. Carry on...
