Who uses brushes? So far I havent seen any good artist that uses brushes. Only gradien, pen tool, filters, and some of the basic brushes that photoshop offers.

pretty much all of my work is brushing. what you have to do is find the right place to place the brushes. i find it easy once you lay down a technique. i suggest one brush per layer, for easy organization, deletion, changing of brushes. i usually do black background, white brush or white bg, black brush. I then will do a layer or two of the original primary brush color, then depending on the brush i am using, i then go back over it with the background color to mask some things and give it a different texture. of course i still use filters and gradients and blah blah blah, but i mainly use brushes, new color balance layers, new hue/sat layers, and new bright/cont. layers.
To make a render into a brush, simply go into c4d, bryce, 3dsm and create a render. save as a .psd (i forgot the whole process.....pixel2life.com has a tut on it.). cut out what you want or keep the whole thing and go i believe into edit>define brush and vwalah, you have a brush. Go crazy.

I want to learn how to brush, not for brushes. To get brushes you goto Deviant Art. I am smart.

Using downloaded brushes isn't cheating. People just can't handle the fact that someone beat them with a signature that used downloaded brushes so they use that agains't them to make it look like they cheated. Anyway, i'm also trying to get better at my brushing.
Anyway (didn't really read other peoples posts so i don't know if this has been said) just open a render then go to Edit > Define Brush.

Anyone can take anything and use it. It takes skill to take something and use it correctly. I doesn't matter who made the brushes because if you don't know how to properly use them, it's going to look horrible.

delete the downloaded ones, downloaded brushes are for losers. True gfx masters use brushes they made.
If you need help making some brushes, aim me (Ferevar Unkn0wn). I can help you out.

They're for beginners. It's not that hard to take a picture and move it and change the opacity and colors to make it look decent.
You want something hard, try making your own brushes 100% in photoshop, and making something that looks nice with them. Now that's a challenge.

Draw a circle with the marquee, fill it with any color. Then add a stroke, black, 3+ PX and have the fill opaity be O. Then merge it with a bottom blank layer and delete as you wish t make it original.

Most of my brushes I make from abstracts. If I want some type of grunge I ad a little texture to it.
