it depends on what zombie movie you watch. if the zombies are like the ones in Dawn of the dead they would be deadlier than vamps. but if they are like the ones in Shaun of the dead where they are "lifeless" then I would have to vote vamps. but my vote is going to be VAMPS! because they are stronger, faster, and so on. zombies have one weakness. the head. and zombies are just stupid. unless you are watching a zombie movie where they learn. it is kind of hard to vote on this kind of subject because they are both practically equal. zombies are destructive in groups and vamps can kick ass no matter how many. I am still going with vampires though. plus if I was going up against zombies I would definitly want a katana or some sword because taken off their head would be easy. but if I didn't have any good weapons then I would be screwed. that is the one thing about zombies, they can't be killed that easily. but vamps if you stick any sharp object in their chest they would be dust. btw Land of the Dead looks just as good as Dawn of the dead.

well, zombies might not be albe to die very easily, but they had little or no brain power. They can also be very slow and only have basic motor functions. Also, zombies can supposidly be killed by major head trauma or complete destruction of head or entire body. Vampires on the other had can do many things and retain all their brain power. Thay also have many powers depeding on what some people believe. I would rather be afraid of sunlight/garlic and etc. than be a drooling, slow, good for nothing zombie anyday!

Vampires. =] They are smarter, stronger, faster, some can fly, some have telecinetic (or whatever) powers (like they don't have to bite you to drink your blood =] (scary, isn't it)), they can live like forever.
And I belevie zombies have blood. If they wouldn't have it how could they move? Our muscles need energy which we gain throug blood. Atleast they have to have something to distribute materials for making energy (reaction happens in the cell), because they couln't move. =] hehe. So vampires are better. (I still think Dragons are best =])

People who practice vampirism are fucked up goth kids who wish they were vampires. This poll is for movie monsters. Zombies don't even exist in real life, so you can't compare them to real life vampires anyways.

Actually, I have seen Dawn of the Dead thank you very much. Good movies too. And what you said about the people who practice vampirism ( Trust me, Im not one of them. Are you kidding me? Zombies in Resident Evil horrified me to no end. Zombies try to imitate vampires in that game by biting at your neck. They take too much flesh and make the blood all splattery.

Plus zombies in all other movies and lore have never been that great. Usually half-rotted, most often brainless, always conjured through a scientific experiment or a botched magic spell (or a purposeful cult summoning of them, "mwahahaha, DEAD PEOPLE UNITE!" say the bad guys), and hello?! U-G-L-Y!

Now, vampires...hehehe...oh, come on, even Alucard in the Hellsing anime is a bish if you look at him right. Sexy without the glasses, no? Red eyes are a nice turn-on.

In my humble (but downright outspoken) opinion, vampires are the hands-down winners. For one thing, they have brains. They are smart, they think for themselves, they are immortal. Which means, guess what, bishie fangirls?! No aging!! If you bite a sexy man at twenty, he STAYS twenty! Rock on, vampires!! Keep the horizontal boogies dancing! (...Please forgive me, the food is like sugar for me)

Okay, but to get serious. Vampires don't age. They are immortal. Which means that not only do they have intelligence, but that intelligence can grow so immensely over a long period of time. Put it this way: if you run into a vampire that's, oh, say, 1000 years old, he's not gonna be playin' around, right? You don't mess with 1000-year-old vampires. Even one that's one or two hundred years old is a genius compared to a normal human, because our life span is so short. Immortality has its perks, you know.

Also, depending on the vampiric lore you read, they can have very interesting powers. Vampiric lore differs from place to place, book to book, movie to movie. You'll notice that Bram Stoker's Dracula is much different than that of The Blade Trilogy. Some theories are more interesting than others. Some lore even mentions half-vampires, Dhampir, who can withstand sunlight for a certain amount of time. Turning into a bat is another common power. There is also the ability to control animals that travel in packs. So not only are vampires more intelligent than zombies, but they have a wider variety of abilities, and therefore tend to be more powerful.

Even though zombies can generally never be killed, they can be destroyed if you break the spell, or usually the one who cast the spell. It depends on the story. There are two ways to kill a vampire, traditionally: stake through the heart, or cut off their head. Or, you can always use silver bullets or stick 'em in the sunlight. The whole idea of being weak to crosses and holy water seems rather silly to me. The theory is that you have to believe for it to work. Coming from the mind of an agnostic, I simply don't think it will work. I'm not saying it's stupid, I'm just saying I don't believe it will work. (You believers will say it's probably because I don't believe. I can read your minds, honeys, don't post it ;))

A book titled The Silver Kiss went into some good detail about the neck-biting thing. In another book--I believe Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire--the apprentice to vampire Lestat (forget his name) says that the reason why they drink human blood is because it is the only way they can experience life. Human blood is kind of like their portal to the human world; taking the physical essence of a person's body is sort of like regenerating their own. This reveals the downside to being a vampire. Even though you're immortal, you can never be human again, and of course, you can never die. So sometimes a vampire might not like being a vampire, and get bored with it, like Lestat did. I once created a vampire character who strived to make it his goal to be human again.

Vampires might sometimes have a few downsides, but generally, they have a much cooler air to them than zombies. You can do a lot more with vampires than you can with zombies. Zombies are your basic brainless undead lackeys: They come, they bite, they eat, they conquer. Speaking of Kate Beckinsale i got some information (typical) on the new Underworld movie. Rumors has it, it will be coming out around 2006, being called Underworld: Evolution.

Here's a sypnosis.

This movie continues the saga of war between the Death Dealers (vampires) and the Lycans (werewolves). The film traces the beginnings of the ancient feud between the two tribes as Selene (Kate Beckinsale) and Michael (Scott Speedman), the lycan hybrid, try to discover the secrets of their bloodlines. All of this takes them into the battle to end all wars as the immortals must finally face their retribution.

Van Hellsing was an okay movie. The anime is better, but I wish I'd seen more of it.

I wouldn't think a decrepit vampire is a zombie, per se. They don't lose intelligence, and they don't lose their immortality. It's more like they would be considered...elders. "Ancients", if you will. Leaders of their clans and all that jazz.

Underworld introduced a new folklore-ish theory to the lives of modern vampires, kind of like how Blade did. It was something that went a little off from the basic traditions, but I feel that movie was more concentrated on Lycans. I could be wrong, but the air of it all seemed to be more focused on werewolves than vampires.

Personal theory in my eyes has me thinking that vampires wouldn't get weaker as they got older, but rather much stronger. There's no way all the intelligence they've gathered over the years would go to waste.

*laughs* Sorry, I know little about werewolves and their traditional lore. I would think think that werewolves are still werewolves, of course, but I believe the term "Lycans" may have derived from what transforms them into werewolves in the first place. The prefix "Ly" could have been adapted from a word for the moon, Luna, or Lune, depending on the language it came from. The moon is what activates the transformation in a werewolf person.

Ah, but therein lies the trick! Zombies are numerous, indeed, but how do you expect them to blend into their surroundings? There could be more vampires than you think! See, it's difficult to tell the vampires from the humans, even if you know they hate the day. There's no way they'd show their fangs before just the moment they're about to feed. Plus, you're forgetting Dhampirs, half-vampires. Remember, Blade was still a vampire, albeit a "half-breed". All their strengths, none of their weaknesses. Now, if you have more Dhampires than vampires, that basically means that a sub-species of vampires is not only walking the streets at night, but also during the day! If that happens, you'd be totally fooked over.
Also, technically, if you imply the Resident Evil complex, all that a zombie takes is a break to the spine or a bullet to the head to kill it. Quite easy for a human OR vampire to pull off.

*Can't eat or drink
*Survive on blood
*Are intellectual
*Have a distinct way of changing ie-drain blood and then drink the blood of the vampire who drained you.
*Aren't affected by crosses or holy water
*Their movements are more science than mythology
*Can feel both pleasure and pain

Then there's Hellsing-

*Vampires are bloodlust crazy
*Possess extra skills unlike anne-rice vampires
*If turned by a vampire you become a ghoul
*Are affected by silverand holywater
*Can move through shadows

Then there's your mytholical vampires-

*Affected by crosses and holywater
*Live in castles in Transylvania
*Attract beautiful women to them
*Have the power to turn into a bat
*Can move really fast

Bascally, there's alot of different versions of vampires, as i said earlier, i like the Anne-Rice style the best, but i'm all for other versions.

Anne-Rice is good because it's portrayed with a style of realism.

Same for a werewolf character i'm rping on another board.

If you're into werewolves i suggest you get the book

"Bitten" by Kelley Armstrong she has a very cool and very unique and realistic way of protraying werewolves. Then once you've read "Bitten" get "Stolen" there's 6 in the series.
