well I am looking forward to the release of the PSP.....I have been keeping tabs on the info and it looks very promising. Though I think that the DS is a great system I believe that the PSP, once fully released with all add-ons and bugs worked out will surpass the DS and GBA as the new handheld to buy.

Video games are something I outgrew when I was 12. I had a PlayStation, so based on my liking for it, I'd say that.

I really couldn't care less though o.o

That is some crazy poll with so many answers... I voted for "PlayStation Portable" Because it's a lot better looking then Nintendo DS, and PSP has better graphics. Also, PSP has better games coming out and you can watch movies and listen to music on it. So it's a 10 for PSP and a big 0 for Nintendo DS!

I have a DS but not a PSP. I think both hold promise, but considering Nintendo's experience I think it just might come out on top.

DS: It's a lot cheaper for us poor folks :P I'm usually broke... also, PSP games are more expensive.
PSP: mp3s and movies, more options.

PSP only costs about 50$ more.
And yes, the games are about 10$ more...

--------------------------------------

The PSP and the DS are both great handhelds. But both have their evident flaws. PSP in particular is having trouble in the Japan market.

DS: Although the DS is a great handheld, it's graphics are below that of the PSPs, and that will cause a lot of people to go for PSP. Also, to some the touch screen may seem gimmicky, and the poor launch title list for the US doesn't exactly help. On the pros, it's an extremely fun handheld, plays all your gameboy advance games, AND it's just fun to play ^_^, anyone who's played Mario 64 DS and Feel the Magic know why I put that :P

PSP: The PSP, although being a very powerful handheld, sacrifices it's battery life in doing so. It uses a new format to play movies (UMD) which is ONLY supported by the PSP, and expects users to catch onto using it, dispite very little UMD support. In Japan there have already been quite a few angry people who bought one, only to have it fall apart in their hands (analog nub falling off, system ejected discs when tilted, whole system falling apart, air bubble in screen, etc.), but other than that, it's a very good system. Likely the only true flaw for it is being made my Sony.

Don't expect to have Sony fix the flaws in the PSP. I'd say that's pretty doubtful. The DS launch titles features 2, maybe 3 good games. Both are really good handheld systems, and I suggest looking into them both, PSP with great games like Ape Escape, MetalGear Ac!d, Volcanus, etc. DS with great games like Final Fantasy 3, Dragon Warrior Monsters, Metroid Prime Hunters, etc.

EDIT: Forgot to add something. So far in Japan, the DS games "Wario Ware" and "Mario 64 DS" have trippled the PSPs largest seller in amount sold. But it's still early to tell which will do the best, and Sony seems unshaken by this.

So is DS doing better? In my [american] school, no one wants a DS, everyone wants PSP.

Crad

In Japan DS is doing thrice as good, but that's not to say the PSP is doing bad.

--------------------------------------------

Currently in North America, the DS is the current Hot Item and is constantly sold out in most major stores. Luckily though, if you live in a small town you can find a few left. The PSP has yet to be released in North America, so nobody knows how well it'll actually do.

A few of the more desperate people are actually importing to get one... they're going to be sad... no games for the PSP (that aren't japanese) until march while holding the system... :/

Anyways, I support the DS more just because of the PSP's UMD discs, but overall I think they're both great handhelds and plan to buy them both. Although UMD discs are great, it's Sony's plan of marketting that I find flawed... They expect the PSP to become the new iPod, but it's just not practical carrying around a 2 and a half hour system to watch movies on a tiny scene using a lowly supported format of movie disc.

I've heard though that the PSP doesn't have Anti-Shock, but until I actually see some kind of info that proves this it's probably just a DS fan's slander.

Also, lucky owners of the PSP are noticing many many problems: Disks coming out while playing if you even slightly twist it (which happens often), analog nub coming off, buttons sticking. They're fragile machines, you'll probably not have it for more than a year if you get one.

Yep, good ol' Sony quality.

My computer is Sony and the screen goes wavy almost every day. Also, our Sony DVD player plays DVDs crappily-ish. We're staying away from sony :/

I don't find their DVD players or TV bad, but they've released 3 (4 if you count the new Smaller PSP) versions of the PS2 in order to fix problems with the hardware. Already my PS2's broken three times, once was because I was playing a DVD while it was sideways :/

The first one was the release one, but this one apparently had some unknown problem (that I don't know), so they released a new one just over a year after. This one was smaller, but it had the DVD problem (where if you played a DVD while the system was sideways, it would break your PS2), so they released another version of the PS2. The slim one would be the fourth, but it's not to fix a problem, so I didn't really count it.

EDIT: I have the 2nd version btw...

I pick DS, mostly because I am Nintendo fan, but also because the DS has so many more features! IMO the PSP won't be too good, because the only games you'll get for it are the same kinda ones as you get on the PS2. But with the DS you can not only use all the GB/GBC/GBA games, but you also get NDS games which you won't be able to get on other consoles, even the N64 re-releases of such like Super Mario 64 DS are a lot different from the N64 originals. Anyway this is what I think, so yeah. ^_^

Playstation. With Nintendo stuff will happen the same thing that always happen: they realize that is a crap. But it's just my opinion.
