Just a little while ago at E3, Sony showed a video of a re-made FFVII (the opening sequence). It was beautiful...but they called it "tech demo for ps3", so we are still not sure if there will be a remake, but they sure are doing somethin....

Are you sure it's a re-make, or is it a sequel? They have Advent Children, the movie sequel, and they have something that's a sequel to FFVII that's supposedly playable, called Dirge of Cerberus, that will have Vincent as the main hero. I've heard of re-releases in Japan before, but never a re-make for America. Interesting.

Square has previously said that they feel no need to remake Final Fantasy VII, and in all honesty I don't think a remake could possibly be as good without Nobeau Ueamatsu and the pre-rendered backgrounds.

Square Enix is the best.
They are so misterious and they think just like I do. No kidding on this one. I should work for Sqaure making storylines, heh.
I tought that Musashi should be remaded and guess what they did? Musashi for PS2.
SO I'll think... Yeah, prolly there will be a remake but I'm unsire if it's from that video

Like I've said before, I've never heard of a remake, just follow-up sequels.
Advent Children is the movie version, which I'm sure everyone has heard about--a full 60 minutes long, it was, last time I checked. Some fans were disappointed that it wasn't playable, so I believe they decided to make another sequel.
That's where Dirge of Cerberus comes into play. I've heard from a few other sources (a friend of mine has a link, so once I have it I can post it) that DoC is a sequel to FFVII, this time with Vincent as the main hero.
Since FFVII is, by far, one of the most popular Final Fantasies in the series, it's not surprising that Square or some other company has decided to elaborate on the factor and give the fans something they may have been wanting for a while. On the flipside, if the sequels/remakes are disappointing, then it kind of ruins the glory of the original, doesn't it?

Not disappointed... as long as Square keeps FF as one of (if not) the best of the RPG games ever.

Eh, I've always felt that the series was over rated. I've played plenty of better console RPGs, and a lot of better PC ones. Looking at the series as a whole, I'd have to say the last decent one was VIII and even before that there were some mediocre ones (V for example.)
I don't think a remake would do the original justice, the music was half the experience and since the original composer left SquareEnix they can't just redo the original music. I think it's probably better to leave FF7 as it is, if they feel the need to milk FF7 for all it's worth then they can keep pumping out direct sequels. I'm getting the impression that SquareEnix has become just another development company out for more money and nothing but money, and to be honest... from what I've observed, Final Fantasy has been dead for years.

the game where Vincent is the hero is a shooting game not a remake of FF7.

Maybe it is a shooting game, but the point is that most sources say it's a sequel.
In any case, Final Fantasy is by no means a dead game. If it were dead, they wouldn't continue to make the games ;). It's kind of like Legend of Zelda. When the day comes that Zelda dies, I'll shave my head, shave my eyebrows, and run around screaming like a lunatic while wearing a Link costume, demanding a rebellious uprising.
...Or maybe I'll just make a fan game of some sort. Either way.
But the same goes with Final Fantasy. True, some of the games weren't the best in the world (some reviews for X-2 complained about how heavily the game was soaked in chick-flick estrogen), but the series itself is a timeless classic. Personally, I've enjoyed not only Final Fantasy VII, but also Final Fantasy Tactics and Final Fantasy IX. IX was one of the first games I ever got, so it shall always remain a favorite, but Tactics by far is up there with FFVII in terms of plot. Heck, Cloud even makes a guest appearance on there, by which I'm not surprised.
Anyway, whatever the companies decide to do with Final Fantasy is their business. Hopefully, what they're planning to do isn't as bad as we all think it might possibly be.

By dead I don't mean it doesn't have a fanbase, by dead I mean the games have no soul anymore. They're just pumping out sequels for money's sake now.

Well, think about it this way: if the games weren't good, they wouldn't keep making them. For the most part, people still like Final Fantasy. Usually, if a game sucks, they'll stop making sequels for it.

It's a remake, not a sequel. It looked amazing. Just think of Advent Children, then downgrade the graphics just a little bit, and BAM! FFVII for PS3.

...*takes a moment to print out Cloud's mug shot, hangs it up on her wall and burns incense while praying to the new God of the Bishies* All hail! *cow-tows* Cloud is more than blocks for arms and legs now! All hail! All hail! And all Fangirls shall drool!
Malik: Gee, thanks for abandoning your unhealthy obsession with me. Even Bakura treats me better.
It's a momentary thing. Anyway, remake or sequel, it doesn't matter to me. It sounds like something I would want to play. I never finished FFVII anyway (yes, I am THAT lame), so I look forward to it.

Whether the game is bad or not is irrelevant, any game with the name "Final Fantasy" will sell regardless of quality and SquareEnix knows that. That is the world of business.

OK...OK...there is alot of stuff going on here...so im gonna clear some up. First, there is a ps2 game coming out that stars vincent called durge of cerebrus which is like devil may cry. Next, there is a game coming out for the psp called crisis core....but no one knows what is is about yet. There is also a cell phone game in japan that will be coming here soon that has to do with the turks...i forget the name. Also, coming out in sep 14th in japan is advent children, the sequal to FFVII. Now to the REAL point, this topis is discussing the fact that sony chose to re-make the entry scene to FFVII for their ps3 tech demo and all i want to discuss is, DO YOU THINK THERE WILL BE A FFVII REMAKE FOR THE PS3? I personally think it will be awesome. *no more block-hands and etc. :D *

Square Enix lied. They wanted to see what they could do to Final Fantasy. And Final Fantasy VII will not reach Microsoft (X-Box) or PS3.
As for PS2, Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII, will be in.
