View Full Version : The Bible

I think that the greatest piece of literature ever created was the Bible.
I mean you cannot just read it and understand it. there is so much you have to already know in order to understand what is being said PLUS you have to know when people are speaking in riddles or literally.

And then there are different versions written by people who tried to "purify" the religion (Martin Luther, John Calvin), and there are versions just from certain points of ciew so no one really knows what the Bible is supposed to be.

Also, the Bible is NOT a book. The word "Bible" means collection of literature (stories, books, letters, etc.)

Anyone agree with me?

Well, the Bible is the best-selling book of all time. And there are a few books not included in the Roman Catholic bible. The original creators of our bible decided to not put them in there, they were impure or something.

I know, that's what I hate. That's just their opinion.

But the Jewish bible was a little more than half as big as the Christian one.

That is because the jews have kept only the old bible while christians added the part where jesus was born and all his teaching and the teachings of his students :p

*methinks*

The Jews believe the old testament. The coming of the Messiah part. The Christians include the New testament where Jesus is the Messiah. Jews don't believe Jesus was the Messiah, so they don't have the new testament.

that's one of the reason why i am Muslim. Basically Islam is the same stories as the bible. Except we don't believe Jesus is the Son of God but he's a prophet. Except that the Koran has been exactly transcipted word to word and has never been modified until today. these are the exact words that god gave to Mohammed. Besides I just heard a french joke today.

Translation: The Canabis is as Dangerous as Champagne Except that Champage is better seen by people. Can you imagine if Instead of Saying Drink this Champage it's my blood Jesus would of said Smoke this Canabis it's my hair!! We would celebrate America every Day!!

This is not the place for that STUPID joke. Wine and champagne are two completely different things, and for once, stick to what you know. Insult your own religion, if you will. I don't go to topics about the Koran and make stupid jokes about Mohammed.

And this thread is about the Holy Bible, not why you're a Muslim. Go to the religion section.

*back on topic*

Gah, I have like, 5 Bibles! My parents buy me one every year. O.o

So I stick to my student Bible for daily use, and the King James for reference.

I only have one bible, the New American Bible, in case I ever need to do reference.

I have the New American Bible and the King James Bible.

The differences (from what I have notices) are miniscule.

Yeah. Some Bibles are hardly different at all from the KJV. My student Bible is in normal English, but is very similar to the KJV. I suggest it for anyone who's trying to get into the Bible.

I have never read the Bible, but I do own one. I'm not sure what "version" it is (King James, etc.), although I've skimmed through a few passages when I became curious about something. Lomesir is usually my source for information from the Bible, and all things religious. I bow to her knowledge! She will know more about this stuff than I ever will, so I'll just stick to my knowledge of Ancient Egypt and soak up the religious knowledge from others like a sponge. If anyone has a suggestion for what Bible "version" I should start from (Lomesir says King James is a bad one to read first), gimme a ring. I'm starting to get more and more curious to read these scriptures.
