Some of you out there might be awaiting the new movie starring 50 Cent, Get Rich or Die Tryin' , which happens to be the same title for the rapper's 2003 debut album. But controversy is already stirring about the movie. As if that Hot Coffee mod in Grand Theft Auto wasn't bad enough, some parents in the Los Angeles area are complaining that a billboard advertsin the film, which is located near a PRESCHOOL: will promote violence to an already crime-filled area of L.A. Here's a cnn article for anyone curious, especially those devoted otakus who shut themselves off from the USA to focus on their Japanese lifestye: http://www.cnn.com/2005/SHOWBIZ/Movies/10/26/paramount.billboard.ap/index.html
(i think the post would be watoo long if i copied the enitre article here)
Personaly, i think it was a bad idea to even put the billboard there in the first place. A billboard with a gangsta celebrity holding a gun put near a PRESCHOOL in a city with a HIGH CRIME RATE? That really makes no sense, not even to me, a liberal with way differnet views on media unlike all those "soccer moms" out there in the Bush-voting midwest. But i would really like to thank the parent for trying and save little kids from being indecently exposed. But on the other hand, she thinks "OMG my 4-yr old kid has been exposed to a gun and will be scarred for the rest of life!" Aw come on, you should teach ur kid the dangers of guns, my first exposeure to the word "gun" was like when i was FIVE and learned about its dangers. I still believe that guns are immoral and are not to be used except for militarily pruposes.

Oh yeah, i forgot. Why are parents getting mad at a billboard with a dude holding a gun yet they don't care about all those beer billboards or rated-R movie ads they see along the highway? I mean, all those years i've gone along american highways i've seen ads featuring beer, too much skin, rated-R movies, and other evil stuff. Why aren't soccer moms whiniing about those?

Woops, i previously said that the parent was complaining about just that one billboard with 50 Cent's gun near a preschool. This morning i read the newspaper and i found out it's gonna be a NATIONWIDE ban on the billboard, not just in L.A. It was just that ONE of the ads was neart the preschool. Sorry guys if you were confused.
And say, is that ad appearing in JAPAN with the gun? I wonder how the japaneses parents are reacting to tat.

I don't care about 50cent. they are gangsta wannabe's. plus I don't like rap. it just doesn't have a good beat to it in my opinion. and they can't sing worth crap.plus you can't even make out what they say. but because I know who fifty cent is I won't be descrimitory. one of the songs I have listened to before and it was o.k.... but guns period I don't see why he would even need a gun because of his profession...

Um he is a former convict... and his aka is 'fitty' not 'fifty.' Some rap is ok though from time to time.
former convict? well then lock him up and throw away the key. I can see the evil in his eyes. but why does he have a gun in a billboard shot? what is it for?

I remember in one interview, he said his game would be the best game ever until someone else copied and improved. Ha.

I don't like Rap or Hip-Hop. Some of it is alright but most of it sucks IMO. They should put something else instead of that. For god's sake, its a pre-school, not a high-school.

Hey, you probably saw the picture of the billboard on the CNN.com right? Well, if you haven't i'll tell you now. Basicaly it jsut has 50 with his arms strethc out, with a gun in one hand, a micorphone in another. If you don't kno the plot yet it's basically his true-life story in ghetto New York where he's trhyina get out of crime to become a hip hop star. The poster symbolises the plot; intelliegent people like me know that. But alotta people in America are so dumb they'd get inspired to go shoot people down by looking at that poster. Sigh.
And here's a basic impression of what movies are playing in japan right now: http://www.apple.com/jp/quicktime/trailers/ ; i didn't see 50 Cent's movie there. Either my computer can't display Japanese or Google sucks at translating. If you can't view the Japanese version of the page correctly here's Googles' (lousy) translation: http://216.239.37.104/translate_c?hl=en&sl=ja&u=http://www.apple.com/jp/quicktime/trailers/&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dquicktime%2Bjapan%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D

50 cent is only trying to sell something, which what every entertainer does. You see guns everywhere, why is this any different?
