I like this one

Xanth series by Piers Anthony- if you like fantasy, here's the limit. Earth is Mundania here, a land of no magic. Cenataurs, Griffons, Dragons, and all those good things, and maybe a couple half breeds tossed in as well. Xanth also deals in puns. Everything in Xanth is literal: Night mares exist as well as Day mares, Soda pop comes in lakes insteasd of bottles and doesn't like being confined and shaken. You get my drift. It's funny.

Dragonriders of Pern by Anne McCaffrey- Dragons rule in this world of men.

I'll list more, but I don't think I need to.

... memoirs of a geisha

just watched the dvd last night. I loved it.
House of Flying Daggers, Loved that too. If you haven't seen it, you need to.

As for books:
Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment- it's about these kids: Max(a girl), Fang, Iggy, Gazzy (The Gasman), Nudge, and Angel who are 95% human and 5% bird. They have to flee their mountain home when they are attacked by Erasers, their human-wolf counterparts and one of their own is captured for experimentation. Max, Fang and Nudge set out to find and rescue her while the other two are left behind at an abondoned cabin until they return. Max helps a girl and gets shot at. When her injuries are healing, she finds she has a microchip implanted in her arm. What's with that? Well, I won't ruin the rest for you. Join Max and the flock as they go to New York to rescue the smallest of them and Max's reaction when she finds out she has to save the world.

haha, well they are pretty good books ^^
I haven't seen the Richard Chamberlain version (only snippets of it when it was shown in V for Vendetta I would imagine), but the one with Gerald Derpardieu (this is the modern one, right?) wasn't bad at all ;) Mercedes was what I imagined she would be hehe

ah i'm a big fan of eoin colfer! his sort of fantasy is a refreshing change from the usual magic, vampire, .. well, and other various other predictable plotlines pretty much. artemis fowl is such an adorable little genius anyway, and don't you just wish you were like him when you were 12? i also liked The Wish List, The Supernaturalist, and I'm looking forward to reading his book that just came out (The Halfmoon Investigations).

also, anything by Chuck Palahniuk deserves some merit... I've heard a lot of his goriness (if that's a word), and his books sell realllyyyy well (I know this because I work at a bookstore). Fight Club the movie wasn't that bad either. But then again, Brad Pitt was there so I might be just a bit partial.

In terms of Heroic Fantasy, My favorite is the Belgariade and the Malloree ( I dunno if these are the english titles since I read them in French ) of David Eddings.

What I enjoyed most was the humour of the author, who made really charismatics characters and a really captivating plot.

I also enjoyed The Wheel of Time of Robert Jordan which I can't wait for the parution in France and I go buy in England :D.

Let's see here,
Alphabet of Manliness, by Maddox ranks up there with the best in my opinion, i.e.
The Sea of Trolls and I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell

I also liked the Lord of the Rings book, getting me the entire, three-books-in-one, it's a nice thousand pages of reading to get me through the day.

The Odyssey was pretty good, a nice follow up to The Iliad.

and who can forget, my favorite piece of literature ever (rivaling The Sea of Trolls) is The Bible. I believe it to be the first, non-baby oriented book I ever read.

Oh, I forgot one other series: The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. I saved me the trouble or getting multiple books as well and got all the books in one, this special all included book features an extra short story about Zaphod.

LOITERING with a vacant eye
Along the Grecian gallery,
And brooding on my heavy ill,
I met a statue standing still.
Still in marble stone stood he,
And stedfastly he looked at me.
‘Well met,’ I thought the look would say,
‘We both were fashioned far away;
We neither knew, when we were young,
These Londoners we live among.’

Still he stood and eyed me hard,
An earnest and a grave regard:
‘What, lad, drooping with your lot?
I too would be where I am not.
I too survey that endless line
Of men whose thoughts are not as mine.
Years, ere you stood up from rest,
On my neck the collar prest;
Years, when you lay down your ill,
I shall stand and bear it still.
Courage, lad, ’tis not for long:
Stand, quit you like stone, be strong.’
So I thought his look would say;
And light on me my trouble lay,
And I stept out in flesh and bone
Manful like the man of stone.

i just finished a book calld "black foot" its amazing it was about the time when the white man came and destroyd the native amarican coulture and their people. but it was amazing because it was from the native amarican point of view. the scene that got to me whas when an elder of the tribe had lost both his hands to a hunt that went bad. he had finaly gotten to the point were other people had to take care of him so he left the tribe (this was in winter so it was snowing) he wnet to this hut that was never taken down. (the tribe migrate every summer to a new place where they erect a pole and perform the ceremony called "the sundance" wether or not they have a good year is based on if the pole falls or not when they set it into the ground. Any way at the same time the old man was traveling to the hut their was a raid on a house where rouge indians who basicly hate the white man no matter what raided a hous sadomized the mother whom was their and thankfully never noticed the little girl hiding under the table where her mother put her to keep her safe. the indians set fire to the farm and killed all their animels then forced the mother to make them a feast with all the meat they brought her the rest they took or left their to rot. after she fed them they sodomized her and then fled. after this a group of men came having noticed the smoke (the farm was a ways away from a town) and amung them was the husband. he took his son and whent out to the halfway point becuase it was the closest refuge from the snow storm that was coming. in the end of the scene the son is freezing and want to go home ut he father still full of rage and it literaly said at this point "it didnt matter who he shot as long as it was one of them" he then noticed the hut and forced his son to come in with him. the old man was warming hilself over a fire hed made (probably took him forever too since he has no hands) and thus his back was to the door. he was holding his arms over the fire and then the father shot the man in his head. the son threw up then on the floor realizing his father had just shot a indian with no hands and thus wasnt capable of any act that had taken place at the farm.
