In my opinon Japanese is sooo much better than ours so Go Japan!
I mean come on, we only have like 3 pop artists, 3 hip hop artists, and hte rest is of rock bands, and TONS of rap artists.
While japan has over the thousands per Genre.
I have 8 GB too of Jpop, Jrock, and Jhip hop so i know definitly that thier soo much better.
And for all of you who saw Fantastic Four, we used a Jrock group called orange range's song in it. I mean has America stooped that low?
Yes it has.
Even the music we make it just random words, blah blah blah, BAM a song!
So thumbs up Japan, your great ;)

Ok I argee with you that Japanese music is good. But I cant you cant blame America for stooping that low. Sometimes Japan/China/Hong Kong/America/England rip off each other countries music, so does that mean that country is stooping that low as well. Maybe there was a Japanese animator in the production of Fantastic Four. Or maybe America wants to sell their movie in the Orient. We never know. It could well be a propaganda. =P

Japanese music is wonderful.
I think most of us just like it because its unique, most of our friends don't have a clue about it, and people don't get fads like they do about "omg Usher" or whatever the hell they are into these days.
The entire Beck soundtrack (s) are wonderful.. and they are just TV show music!

Japanese music nowadays seems much better than american music because they are more creative in their song. They often include techno music to instrumental music which is really wonderful to listen too. The message of the lyrics are also quite good. The messages are more intact and gives point to the song. Japanese songs also have less swear words that doesn't make sense in american songs like saying the n' word all the time . Rap or hip-hop in america has gon' down to it's original art form. It used to be about life in the outside world but now the lyrics are all about bitches and ho's, money and clothes, hummers, and sex. Rock music now is all about screaming, singers are often not good in singing especially those punk bands and recent pop singers (Simple Plan, Ashlee Simpson ), they are all worked up into their image, not their music. And nice tunes nowadays are far less than in Japanese music. American musicians and singers will just create a song that is not really good, and then next thing you know it hits the charts? What? And people pay for that for goodness sakes...

I dont think japanese music is better at the same thime i wouldnt say american music is better..
They are just different--
My favorite anime song is hit in america :D
but to be honest.. the lyrics arent that complex..
I own 2 jpop cds myself.. bought them and they are not that bad... some good balads....
but rock.... jrock... definitly hasn' t enough power... i mean the harder corner of the buisness.. like genitorturers there are no bands like that in japan... just because no japanese got such a voice..

It really depends on what ur looking for. No single genre is better than another. Except country music. Down with country music!

Dec 23rd, 2005, 06:25 AM
I agree with that, it does depend on what you are looking for and the person's perference as each individual is different. But I must say I like both. The anime soundtracks rock! Yet american bands rock too! Like Green Day, Nickelback, Blink 182 etc.

For me, i would go with American Music... First of, i hate listening to stuff u can't understand unless the arrangement is really good.
2ndly, U have to start browsing around for new bands, yes currently the american music scene is saturated with rap artists but there are still many nice bands and singers out there that you prolly never heard off.
3rdly, You all should try www.pandora.com , they form a whole streaming radio station on what you like to listen, for example i enter Oasis and they will play me songs with mixed acoustic and electric instruments ( bands like Fuel and singers like Matt nathanson) and so on...

It's hard to compare Japanese music to American, since well it's just plain different... The style is pretty contrasting and American music is starting to lean more to the rap side. I listen to both :)

hmmm...every song has its unique rhythm, i guess, and american music had also have better quality like Green Day or Simple Plan. Yeah, I could agree some american music like sucks, but not all of them. For Japanese music, they have upgrade and some of it had use in Hollywood, like Orange Range, but some of Jap music doesn't have so much quality. It is depending on the audience's taste. Like me, I don't like Malice Mizer much but many of the Jap. music (including anime soundtrack especially) was my fav. But I also like american music too.
I just said my opinion. Maybe it is too long I supposed.:p

You can't beat the fact that you can actually understand the English songs, so they mean more to you that way.
Some of the (Japanese) songs we listen to may be considered absolute crap/nonsense by the Japanese.

Well then there are also some of us that can understand both and leme tell ya theres a fine line in the two differnt cultures . The USA at the moment is filled with angry rockers while over there its just happy happy all the time . I just like both it just depends on my mood at the moment.

Dec 25th, 2005, 12:33 AM
I'm not quite sure where you get off thinking that there are only a few artists per genre over here in the US. Given, I'm not claiming that Japan ISN'T better than the US, I'm just trying to figure out how the hell you came to that conclusion O_o;;;
Either way, Japanese suits much more cathartic movies/TV shows, etc. American music isn't quite as emotional.
ZsychPrime
Dec 25th, 2005, 02:16 AM
I think that there are probably as many or more American musicians in the game as there are in Japan(maybe more, our country is larger :) )
Japanese music is different, and often quite good(though i'm mostly going by anime sound tracks), but some of that stuff is truely horrendous.
Of course, you may be able to say that about the more unpopular American bands as well.
Also... if you look at music videos... the Japanese ones are so lame.. usually.
Americans definitely win out in that area.
I was looking at the videos of some japanese songs i like a while back, and seriously, i wished that those artists would get some good American directors, so their own videos wouldn't destroy their songs.

American music vs Japanese music?
I don't even think that comparison is fair. Japan is a relatively small island compared to the land mass that is the United States. We are a melting pot of Myriad Cultures, with that kind of rich diversity of course we are going to have more, and better music.
When I hear "Japanese Music" I think of J-Pop, Historical music (Kitaro Drums ect), and Japanese Folk Music. And that's because I'm uninformed when it comes to Japanese music.
On the other hand when I think of American Music I think of...
Jazz, Rock n' Roll, Hip Hop, R&B, Rap, Heavy Metal, Pop, and Country to name a few. Against the weight of just these musical genres Japanese music is crushed.
Don't get me wrong, there is definitely good Japanese music, like Arigato from Bleach, and the musicians, Ai, Dragon Ash, and a female Jazz musician whose name eludes me. But for the most part I just hear J-pop with lyrics that make no sense, and that can't compare to American Music.

Dec 26th, 2005, 10:10 PM
Well there is the saying that goes a small man doesnt mean his not strong or more success than a bigger man. Geographically speaking of coz Japan is smaller than US, duh!
But we measure success not in physical but in achievements, including music. Yes popular music in US is widely known, but that doesnt meant the quality and popularity of j music is much less.
Westerners know Utada, Ayumi, Boa, Hyde etc... Theres much hype bout them also. Dont judge a person by size but by quality of the person. same goes for music.
Finally its all come down to preferences, music are universal, it can stimulate our feelings: grief,sad,happy.. and much more, so enjoy urself with the sound of musics all over the world

Each music made from Americans or its Japanese counterparts are the same. Music speaks one language alone.
Admit it not a lot of us who listens to Japanese music actually comprehends the lyrics yet we comprehend the sound and the whole thing.

Both Japanese and American music has its good and down points. It's all a matter of opinion. If you like hearing Japanese music, then of course, you're going to think it rules and of course Japan is better. But, if you like listening to American music, you'll like America more. Me, in my opinion, I like American music more because the Japanese music I heard that was non-anime, I didn't particularly like.

The only music that i would listen to in another language which i dont understand would have to be eastern European style music, because the voice is so proud in that style, plus i grew up around it. as for languages which i can understand, spanish, especially Santana. cause its very smooth. I do listen to oriental music, but not nearly as much as the others.
