this is a story one of my friends hooked me up with. I thought this would be the place to put it. http://www.salon.com/tech/feature/2002/08/28/0wnz0red/index.html
very....weird, and in the spirit of the article very L33T
just think you wanna lose 10 pounds? regenerate a lost limb? heal a bullet wound? just plug in the USB, and your ready to go.
Fiction of course...well so far.

The only way to do that would be to directly link a cable into your like, cerebral cortex or whatever. It would be very expensive surgery, probably not affordable by regular people.
But indeed, being able to "jack in" would be cool

Well, there has been some newer studys that show that all of the signials in our body are electric, and they(the omnipotant scientists) have been working to interpret the electric signals. if we can learn what signals do what, we could mimic the signals. we may be able to use, some kind of magnetic fields to do it, or like those pads that they use for muscle stimulation. They may not ever have to open up your body.

hmmm I guess you could see it as creepy. but if your an average american, your most likely over weight, if not you may be the stereo typicle nerd, thats uber scrawny. either way, wouldn't you love it if someone came out with a machine that would let you become ripped in a matter of hours, while you say, post on the forum, or watch the latest anime? you'd never have to dragu your self away form your computer to exercise, you'd just write co,de to do it for you. or as the computer world is today someone else would write the code for you, and you'd either pirate it, pay for it, or get it for free lagit(ie opernsource) it would still roxor my boxors

Well, you can't really say that about the average American for one. As my second favorite quotes goes " There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics." However, I won't turn this into a "You can't really believe a word the media tells you in any country" thread.
No, it would not be cool for some dude to just change your body structure. The fun is in earning it and competing with it (however, this is from an athletes perspective who codes as well). On second thought, I will go further into every freaking Tom, Dick, and Harry saying most Americans are fat.
It is true, a large percentage of Americans are fat. However. most of those statistics are raw based only on weight & height and not on muscle-fat percentages. For example, I took 1 test I was obese. A week later (1 pound difference) I took another and I wasn't.
The media lies and exaggerates. Everybody hates America, most of us can't stand our damn country's government either. if you watch Jay Leno, his fat ass will call Americans fat, but he gets paid to talk shyte; yet people take it to heart.

I'm a fatty.. I'm not "obese", i'm slightly overweight though..
Sure, if I could jack into a machine that would make me stronger and make me lose weight, I'd do it.. But meh

I was thinking it'd be cool if you could change your outer appearance to look like something or soemone you would want to be like but why would you want to change your outer appearance, it won't change who you are inside and it won't change what people think of you once they get to know you. Another thing, If everyone could change themselves to become whatever they wanted to be, the world would become dull and stupid because almost all the fun and happiness or whatever you get out of making your self better comes from the actual work you have to do to get where you want to be but thats just me. I think in this world of ours we all have to make our own decisions but again thats just me.

Not to insult you, but that just means you are lazy. Lazy people who are fat and weak should stay weak because they will probley die from heart attacks and strokes for living a bad life style (not that I think they should, but it's how the body works).
I guess that's the price society pays for computers and TV.

Yea, I am lazy, but I also have a disability that makes it difficult/painful for me to exercise.. I'm not going to get into that on a public internet site, but that is the reason I am lazy..

KaitneV everyones intitled to there own opinion. and I for one don't see the fun in working out. Unless your talkign about martial arts or tai-chi, or somethign along those lines, thats not just working out but a spirtial thing too. but lifiting waits isn't my idea of fun. I'd reather be trouble shooting a computer. if I could be ripped without the work I'd do it. and theres also those of us who just don't have the time for working out. unless we take up a polyphasic sleep schedual or something (which didn't work out to great for me... I may try that again) it would just make life more convinient if we could. I do see what you mean about working for it though. I don't think it wouldbe fun, but I can see how someone would appriciate it more if they worked for it. and some people do get kicks outa working out.
and just because we don't go out and exercise doesn't make us lazy. its just not important to us. you said your a coder(unless I misread that). I'm sure you know how much effort it takes to learn, and use a programing language(unless you just took a couple classes on a language, instead of learnign by your self. then your a programer not a code poet). anyone who can dedicate that much time to something isn't lazy. also the world wouldn't be dull and stupid, because if we all looked how ever we want with out work, we could spend more time on the things that count, it would force a person, to actualy THINK and BE an individual, not just try to dress like they think individuals do. it would force people to develop a personality, and be a real individual. it would also force us to get to know someone before we judge then, not just judge them on how they look.
PS maybe we should get this moved to the debate section?
EDIT- I reread this, and realised it sounded kind of condisending. I really didn't mena it to be. so try not to take it that way.

I haven't taken a single programming class yet and lord knows how much time I've invested into PHP.net and other sites thus far (3 months worth of hours maybe(but that just may be because I get distracted easily)).
Also, I may just be weird. However, when you start running with your team or a group of friends tired as hell and you keep going, I find find that fun (adrenaline pumping and stuff).
I also have to admit, my scedule is pretty lame. Sleep, School, Wrestling Practice/Weights, few hours on the computer, restart.
