I just finished watching Sony's E3 Press Conference on GameSpot, and.. wow..
First off, the PS3 will launch with 2 million units.
There will be 2 bundles - One with a 60GB HD, the other with a 20GB HD. They will retail in North America for $599 and $499, respectively. By launch, there will be 2 million units shipped worldwide.
The controller - ... It's the PS2 controller! But, as Ken Kutaragi (Sony CEO) elaborates "INSIDE THIS BODY we have added powerful and elegant systems.... ". By this he means that the PS3 controller will have motion sensitivity, with no external motion detector (a la Wii). Thus, say in a flying game like Warhawk (demo'd at the press conference with this controller), you could tilt the controller towards you to pull up, tilt right to bank right, etc etc. This will allow for far more freedom of motion, and other controller buttons will be available for other things.
I was hoping they'd have a brand new controller, as I don't like the PS2 controller, however they don't, and that disappoints me.
A plethora of game trailers was featured throughout (most notably FF VIII and MGS4), they look nice, but will they hold up when the console launches? I predict mass disappointment.
PSP - You will be able to play PS1 games (ie Ridge Racer 1) and use it for various compatibility with the PS3.

i guess that means 1 million units per bundle...
die... i won't buy it right away for 2 reasons
1) i don't like the price
2) i don't want to end up with a v1 console with all the bugs/problems (ie xbox360 overheating)
the hd drive seems a bit small to me... if ps3 is supposed to be a technological advance as an entertainment system... it should have more hd space... for music and videos etc... but i suppose they'll allow you to upgrade it later on for more money...

omg... lol... have you ever played first timers on console games... wow.. this will probably be a huge advantage for them lol... like i remember playing n64 with my mom and she would shake the controller and tilt it and edge it into the direction she wanted it to go to instead of using the joystick...
oh well...

Xbox 360 didn't have overheating problems - it had retard user problems. In the instructions manual it states that one should not play for extended periods of time or leave their 360 in an enclosed space. Thus it is the fault of the user, not the xbox 360, for overheating.
I assume they will have more of one bundle than the other. You have to keep in mind that this is a worldwide launch, and, coming from Sony, Japan will be the priority (another reason why xbox is good, none of this gay 'LOL AZN PRIDE FTW' crap waitin 2 years for a game.), and thus the rest of the world won't get many consoles.
They took out vibration and did a bad imitation of Nintendo. I don't think that will make them win.

No way! Did they really take out vibration? I kind of enjoyed those features.. like in Fatal Frame where you can feel the heartbeat in the controller. (really added to the freakiness factor when i played for the first time)
I'm really looking forwards to the games, I don't mind waiting for it to come out so much. It's just.. the cost.. I can't afford that!

1) Same. If I didn't have a girlfriend I could work for the price no problem... but women are expensive sometimes.
2) The first shipments always have errors so I'm waiting as well.

Haha, my mom did that too. She's always done that, it's amusing.
Though my mom is the person I have to thank for getting me into videogames.

Fun fact: 20% of PS2s had/have problems. That means theres a good chance you'll get a faulty one.
/knows people that got faulty ones 3+ times in a row

Has anyone seen this, taken from IGN, but M$ is tellin people not to buy a ps3 but buy a Wii and Xbox360 instead
E3 2006: Microsoft Recommends Wii
Peter Moore tells people to pick up a Wii and a 360 instead of a PS3.
by JKR
May 11, 2006 - You read it right. Peter Moore, a vice president for Microsoft, asked in a recent interview, "Tell me why you would buy a $600 PS3?" He went on to explain, "People are going to buy two [machines]. They're going to buy an Xbox and they're going to buy a Wii ... for the price of one PS3."
Microsoft seems to have decided to side with Nintendo in order to overthrow Sony's current lead in the videogame market. Whether the strategy will work or not remains to be seen. Though no official announcement has been made regarding the price of Wii at launch, it is expected to release for a significantly cheaper price than either the 360 or Playstation 3 consoles.
Nintendo has stated many times that it does not wish to compete directly with Sony and Microsoft in the next generation war, opting to move into a new direction with Wii that will complement the other systems.
