This movie just came out in theaters yesterday (Friday) and I ended up seeing it.

It's based on a true story about a high school which has been turned into a reform school of sorts. There are a bunch of different (and thus rival) gangs who get quite violent, etc.

There is a first-year teacher there who is put in charge of teaching the failure class, and attempts to turn them around.

Good movie, definitely go see it. Thoughts if you've seen it?

Makes me think of the television show, "Welcome Back Hotter," it was aired a while ago.

The Freedom Writers Diary was only published in 1999, so I doubt this is a remake, but I suppose it's a possibility...

It was a great movie. Gave me the warm fuzzies, I'd like to read the diary now though.
